The gingiva and lips typically exhibit a pink to light red color, though this can be altered
by various factors. In some cases, these color changes cause aesthetic concerns for patients. For
instance, in the Arabian Gulf area (GCC), gingival and lip melanin pigmentation is one of the most
common aesthetic issues, leading patients to seek its removal. Several depigmentation methods
are currently used, including surgical blades, diamond or ceramic burs, chemical agents, and laser
therapy. This presentation will highlight the causes of such pigmentations, the effects of different
laser wavelengths on removing melanin gingival pigmentations, and clinical assessments for
bleeding, wound healing, pain, color improvement, patient satisfaction, and relapse rate, also the
presentation will provide clinical recommendations to avoid adverse effects and complications.
Objectives : 1-Understand the effects of different type of lasers in depigmentation
2-Recognize the proper wavelengths for such procedures
3-Learn about the possible adverse effects and complications related to laser oral depigmentations
