Abstract: Maxillofacial prosthodontics is a subspecialty of prosthodontics that rehabilitates patients with maxillofacial defects due to resection of tumours and debrinment post covid19 mucormycosis by means of removable maxillofacial prostheses. Maxillofacial prostheses are traditionally manufactured following several conventional lengthy procedures that can be traumatic for the patient and rely on the skills of the individual manufacturing team and specifically maxillofacial prosthetics.
Recent updates in the fields of CAD CAM and the implementation of these technologies in medicine offered new methods for data acquisition, design ,construction and new options for materials were rapidly introduced in all dental fields. However, many aspects of these technological updates have still not been entirely functional for maxillofacial prosthetic rehabilitation. In developing countries, because of the complexity of prosthesis construction and the limited expertise in specialized centres, maxillofacial defect patients seem to be deprived of appropriate prosthetic rehabilitation. Intra oral scanning is the most commonly used method for digital data acquisition but scanning difficulties in the context of maxillofacial prostheses still pose challenges, particularly when trying to capture defect regions accurately So the objective of this presentation is to show the challenges and the advantages of data acquisition methods with different IOS in digital work flow in maxillofacial prosthesis, can we go totally digitally or not and finally how we can use both conventional and digital work flow together for better quality of life for maxillofacial patients.
