Clear aligner therapy was introduced in the beginning of this century and since then the treatment module gained popularity especially in patients asking for a more esthetic treatment option. In the beginning companies manufactured the aligner and performed the treatment planning based on their software which wasn’t available in the market. Then with the evolution of aligner third-party software and the development of more 3D printers, in-office aligners were possible. This option allows the orthodontist a better customization of the treatment planning and control of the aligner production. In-office aligner efficiency was tested, and the results were very promising with limitations that needed further enhancements. In-office aligner can provide a more appealing treatment alternative only with the knowledge of the restrictions and continuous research to improve the outcome.
