Skeletal Anchorage in the Management of Maxillary Deficiency

Skeletal Class III malocclusion is one of the most challenging problems in orthodontics that require early interventionespecially the maxillary deficiency. Facemask is used for maxillary protraction in the early mixed dentition. The indirect anchorage of the FM to the maxilla through the dentition has multiple side effects. The introduction of bone-anchored maxillary protraction using palatal TADs, eliminated the side effects of facemask in thetreatment of Class III patients. It also increased the skeletal changes with more patient acceptance.

Objectives: Maxillary protraction using palatal TADs will be discussed based on the current evidence and clinical trials conducted in orthodontic department of Mansoura University.
