When properly adjusted , the Stabilisation Splint (SS) delivers a good method of
providing centric relation occlusion (the position of the jaw relative to the skull when the muscles
are at their most relaxed and least strained position), eliminating posterior interferences, providing
anterior guidance on anterior teeth, reducing neuromuscular activity, and obtaining stable occlusal
relationships with uniform tooth contacts throughout the dental arch.
This workshop is devoted to the practical procedures of making the splint. This is a ‘how-to-do’ workshop and It will give guidelines making a well-balanced SS in dental practice.
The following topics will be covered in this practical workshop:
– How to take a Facebow Registration
– Armamentarium
– Centric Relation record
– Fitting and adjusting the splint
Also, It is important for the dental practitioner to know how the technician mount the models on a semi-adjustable articulator before delivering the splint back for insertion and fitting.
Objectives :
– To be competent at facebow registration
– to be familiar with finding and registering Centric Relation using bimanual manipulation
technique
– to be familiar with fitting and adjusting the splint
